A late momentum changing first half touchdown, and a tough to stop Randall running game proved to be too much for Parkland as the Mats fell to Canyon Randall 38-28 to Friday night at Ratliff Stadium.

Randall quarterback Landen Nix rand for three touchdowns, and threw two more through the air, earning Casa Nissan Player of the Game Honors, and leading his team to a third-round appearance against Wichita Falls Rider next week.

A pair of first half touchdown runs by Deion Hankins made it 14-7 Parkland with 11:47 left in the second quarter.  The second was a 29-yard score set up after a Parkland interception, and the Mats were one score away from taking a commanding first half lead.

Although the Randall defense provide to be as tough as advertised, and a 57-yard touchdown pass from Nix to Mason Tupia with eight seconds left before halftime tied things up at 14-14 and gave Randall huge momentum heading into the break.

From there, Randall running back Jasean Barrow closed things out in the second, but not before a furious Parkland rally late in the fourth quarter made things interesting.

Barrow ran for 131 yards, all coming in the second half, and he made it 28-14 Randall with 3:26 left in the third quarter after a 65-yard touchdown run.

Parkland’s Gabe Herrera threw a touchdown pass to Jesus Sandoval, then to Donta Hayes to tie the gamer at 28-28 with 6:07 left in the fourth quarter after the Parkland defense found some life.

But Nix, Barrow, and the Randall offensive line put this one away.

Randall ran for 304 yards as a team, and as Nix answered Herrera’s touchdown pass with a 14-yard run to take 35-28 Raiders with 3:52 to go.

After a Randall defensive stop gave the Raiders back the ball with 2:30 left, Juan Garcia nailed a 38-yard field goal with 34 seconds left to seal the deal.

Hankins ran 234 yards, and two touchdowns in his final game at Parkland, Herrera threw for 171 yards, and touchdowns.

Parkland’s season ends at 10-1-1, while Randall improves to 6-6 and will head to the Regional semifinal round of the playoffs.
