#3 Coronado Thunderbirds (4-1) @ Montwood Rams (2-3)
Broadcasters: Alex Nicolas and Coach Tony Grijalva
Channels: Coronado and Montwood https://www.towntalksportselpaso.com/el-paso-isd/
District 1-6A kicks off with an interesting match up featuring a pair of solid defenses. The linebacker battle is a good one to watch. Montwood’s Eric Ramirez has led the area in tackles the past few seasons, and Coronado’s Carter McFaddin leads a veteran defense that has not allowed a single point in eight straight quarters. Getting the run game going, and sustaining drives will determine a winner in a physical, and super close match up.

Hanks Knights (3-2) @ #1 Parkland Matadors (4-0-1)
Broadcasters: Mike Tipton and Mark Mena
Channels: Hanks and Parkland https://www.towntalksportselpaso.com/ysleta-isd/
Hanks might the be only team in D2 1-5A that can score with Parkland, but can they score on Parkland will be the question. The Matadors are coming off four straight wins, and giving them a bye week to get healthy and clean up some minor loose ends is a dangerous thing for an improving Hanks team. Parkland rolls, starting their district title run.

Socorro Bulldogs (0-5) @ #6 Pebble Hills (3-2)
Broadcasters: Christian Molinar and Trey Smith
Channels: Socorro and Pebble Hills https://www.towntalksportselpaso.com/socorro-isd/
Socorro brings the state’s longest losing streak into a district battle with Pebble Hills who is also coming off a tough loss. Look for newly committed Air Force Falcon Caleb Gerber to be a factor in district play. Socorro has came close to ending that streak, and will give Pebble Hills an early fight.

Austin Panthers (4-2, 1-1) @ El Paso High Tigers (3-3, 1-1)
Broadcasters: Paul David Oliver and Paul Torres
Channels: Austin and El Paso https://www.towntalksportselpaso.com/el-paso-isd/
Our Town Talk Sports El Paso Game of the Week takes us the Old Lady on the Hill for the historic battle of the claw. For the 87th time, El Paso and Austin battle for the Claw, a series that Austin leads 53-32-2. The Claw has been resting at El Paso High since 2012, and the Panthers have two good running backs who will give the El Paso defense all they can handle. A high scoring, emotional ball game leads to a classic, and Austin snaps their streak.

El Dorado Aztecs (0-5) @ #2 Del Valle Conquistadores (3-1)
Broadcasters: Chris Gomez and Fred Gonzales
Channels: El Dorado and Del Valle https://www.towntalksportselpaso.com/socorro-isd/
Del Valle comes in playing some really good football, while El Dorado continues to search for answers. Raymond Montez is having a stellar season with 13 passing touchdowns, and 12 rushing touchdowns and has yet to thrown an interception. Del Valle continues to roll and improve to new levels.

Canutillo Eagles (2-3) @ #4 Ysleta Indians (5-0)
Broadcasters: Sergio Robali and Henry Reyna
Channels: Canutillo and Ysleta https://www.towntalksportselpaso.com/canutillo-isd/
Both teams were supposed to contend for playoff spots, but Ysleta has a district title on their minds heading into a key district opener. Canutillo has a talented runner in Carlos Amato who is averaging 7.3 yards per rush on the season. Joziah Salazar, Ysleta’s quarterback, will face a well-coached defense, but has been a star against every defensive unit he has faced. Another close early game for the Indians, who pull away and start district play 1-0.

#7 Eastlake Falcons (3-2) @ Eastwood Troopers (2-3)
Broadcasters: Alex Nicolas and Coach Tony Grijalva
Channels: Eastlake and Eastwood https://www.towntalksportselpaso.com/ysleta-isd/
A fun D1 1-5A match up featuring two teams who beat 6A teams before the bye week. Both Eastwood and Eastlake took a huge step forward before the bye week, and will look to take shape of the district title race in what should be one of the best games of the night. Eastwood’s defense answered the call against Montwood, can Eastlake continue their offensive improvement? True toss up prediction, should be a classic finish.

Americas Trailblazers (3-2) @ #8 Franklin Cougars (3-2)
Broadcasters: Abel Carrillo and Peter Carrillo
Channels: Americas and Franklin https://www.towntalksportselpaso.com/el-paso-isd/
Another fun match up that will feature a ton of points, and lots of fireworks. One of the state’s leading rushers in Aaron Dumas will lead the Americas offensive attack. No one has kept Dumas under 150 yards rushing this season, giving Franklin a stiff test. Franklin’s offense is one of the best in the region, this one should come down to the final possession and final seconds. Franklin’s experience comes through in the end in another close battle to end the night.
