EL PASO, Texas – San Angelo Central just may have Pebble Hills number.
Leading 40-16 with under three minutes left until halftime, the Spartans were riding high. Sebastian Ochoa tossed his fourth touchdown of the half, and the Spartans took a 40-24 lead into the break.
The Spartans had 471 total yards compared to just 198 yards to Central, while the Spartan defense forced three, three-an-outs in the first half.
But the second half belonged to Central.
The Bobcats scored on five straight possession, two towards the end of the half, and they scored on all three possessions in the second half.
Central scored right out of the second half gates to cut the lead to 40-32, then Central quarterback Malachi Brown found Joseph Gathecha for a 20-yard touchdown pass and Pebble Hills led 40-38 with 2:23 left in the third quarter.
A 20-yard touchdown run by Brown gave Central the lead via the go-ahead touchdown run and the Spartans never recovered.
Pebble Hills finished the night with 582 yards of total offense, Ochoa tossed four touchdowns and threw for 394 yards and four touchdowns. Isiah Davis caught 9 passes for 130 yards.
But the night belonged to Malachi Brown.
Brown threw for 283 yards, and two touchdowns, and ran in three rushing touchdowns. During Central’s comeback, the junior completed 10 passes in a row.
The loss drops Pebble Hills to 2-2 on the season, they play Eastlake next week.
