Quarterbacks Shine in Shootout as Pebble Hills Edges Midland

Midland High came into El Paso with a three-headed rushing attack looking for a shootout with Pebble Hills’ high-powered offense.  In the end, neither team disappointed as the Spartans held on for a 42-38 victory over the Bulldogs.

​Pebble Hills started the scoring with a 30 yard pass from the “Casa Nissan Player of the Game” Sebastian Ochoa, to Noah Mendoza.  Midland answered back with an eight yard pass from Suddin Sapien to Caleb Keithley.  The Spartans scored the next two touchdowns one yard runs by both Caleb Gerber and Ochoa.

​After Pebble Hills built a 28-10 lead by halftime, Midland’s rushing attack came alive led by Sapien’s legs.  Sapien led the Bulldogs with 176 second half rushing yards and four scores.  He finished with 220 total rushing yards and those four touchdowns, as well as, 82 passing yards and one score.

​The Spartans answered back with the legs of Gerber and both the arm and legs of Ochoa.  While Gerber finished with 129 yards rushing on 27 carries and one touchdown, Ochoa led the team with 151 yards on 27 carries and two scores.   Ochoa also finished 16 of 20 for 201 yards passing and two more scores; contributing 352 total yards of offense.
