It was homecoming night for the Montwood Rams and the home team didn’t disappoint as the Rams beat the Eastwood Troopers 49-30.
In a low scoring 1st Quarter, Eastwood seemed to score first when Junior QB Aiden Garcia hit big lineman, Vincent Valdez on a 6 yard pass. Valdez was lined up as the fullback and was wide open in the flat. Scoreboard had Eastwood up by 6, but after a lengthy discussion, the referees decided to take the 6 points off the board. Valdez, wearing jersey number 52, was wearing the wrong number and play was reset. This set the tone for the game, as Eastwood wouldn’t be able to punch it in and settled for a 27 yard field goal from kicker Esteban Holguin.
Montwood promptly marched down the field on the legs of Senior RB Chris Ramos and the arm of Senior QB Sebastian Galvan with Ramos taking it to the house on a tough 18 YD TD scamper. Eastwood Senior QB Chris Castaneda did not suit up for the game and Coach Lopez relied on two young QBs in Junior Aiden Garcia and Sophomore Andrew Martinez.
Montwood’s defense, led by brothers DT Ivan Escobar and MLB Pedro Escobar, were constantly pressuring the young QBs. Montwood was lead by standout RB Chris Ramos, QB Sebastian Galvan, and the Rams offensive line who controlled the line of scrimmage all night. Ramos would end up 23/289 and 4 TDs and QB Galvan was 14/20 188 YDs and 3 TDs through the air.
The Troopers were led by Junior WR AJ Delgado’s 182 yards receiving and 2 TDs. Our Player of the Game is Rams RB Chris Ramos. Both teams will have a bye next week to prepare for the opening of district play.
Eastwood will be at the SAC on Friday Oct 11 as they visit the Eastlake Falcons. Montwood will open district play on the road Friday October 11 as they will battle the Coronado Thunderbirds.
