Girls basketball: Huge run fuels Americas’ 50-31 win over Coronado

El Paso, Texas — A huge run that started late in the second quarter, then lasted till late in the third quarter helped lift Americas over Coronado 50-31 Friday night at Americas High School.

Bukola Akomolafe scored a game high 17 points, and Teresa Quintana added 15 points to help lead the Blazers to a 7-2 District 1-6A record.

Quintana scored eight points in the third quarter as the Blazers stretched a 25-15 halftime lead to 39-20 after the third quarter, and outscored Coronado 14-5 in the third.

Americas improved to 23-9 overall on the season, and remains a tie for first place, while Coronado drops to 9-18 overall and 3-6 in district play.
