Noah Rios and the Eastwood Troopers put on an impressive showing, dominating the Eastlake Falcons in the D1 1-5A opener 31-6.
Rios ran for 208 yards and two touchdowns, earning Casa Nissan Player of the game honors behind a determined offensive line that dominated Eastlake’s front seven.
The Troop ran for 362 yards, known for their high-flying air raid offense, they went to the ground game on a rainy night across El Paso.
Eastwood took a 17-0 halftime lead after Casteneda threw a touchdown pass to open the scoring, then Rios ran in a touchdown from seven yards out with under two minutes left until halftime.
The big play of the game was a 89-yard touchdown strike from Chris Casteneda to Evan Gonzales with 9:44 left in the third quarter giving the Troop a 24-0 lead.
Casteneda threw for 156 yards, and two touchdowns, Rios added a 40-yard touchdown run midway through the third quarter to put this one away.
Eastlake was held to just 115 yards of total offense on the night. Credit goes the Eastwood defense which continues to improve each week.
Eastwood improves to 3-3 overall, and 1-0 in district play and will play Del Valle next week. Eastlake falls to 3-3, and 0-1 in district play and will play at Chapin next week.
