El Paso, TX — With the postseason starting in two weeks, both #5 Del Valle and Eastlake felt that a victory on Friday night would not only help them get a decent seeding in district 1-5A DI, but carry momentum into the final week of the season as well.
With less than 4 minutes into the game, the Conquistadores struck first and never looked back, as QB Raymond Montez completed a 10-yard pass to Karch Gardiner to put them up 7-0. In the first half, Montez had two more TD passes in the air – one more to Gardiner and another to Christian Rendon – to put the Conquistadores up with a comfortable lead at the half, 21-0.
In the second half, Montez had two more TD passes to Gardiner, including a screen pass, which Gardiner turned on the jets and had 79-yard TD reception. Montez also proved why he is Del Valle’s leading rusher, as he also had a score on the ground, with a 14-yard TD run in the middle of the third quarter. Eastlake’s only score came with 4:27 left in the game, when QB Daine Kirtley found WR Matthew Jones in the endzone. The final score is indicative that the Conquistadores are a team that can make noise in the postseason, by defeating the Falcons, 44-7. Del Valle’s Raymond Montez was the Casa Nissan Player of the game, with 273 yards in the air with 5 TDs and 66 yards on the ground and one TD.
In their season finale, the #5 Conquistadores (6-2, 3-1) will travel to Chapin to take on the Huskies next Friday. The Eastlake Falcons (4-5, 1-3) will host the Bel Air Highlanders on Thursday night.
