Americas came into their season finale looking to close out a perfect District 1-6A season, while Socorro came in clinging to a possible playoff berth—tied with Franklin for the fourth and final playoff spot.

After the Bulldogs scored the opening three pointer, the Trailblazers jumped out to an 8-0 run and led 16-5 after the first quarter.  Americas kept up their barrage over a Socorro team that kept fighting but still fell short; the Trailblazers led 27-15 at halftime.

The Trailblazers extended their lead to 17points by the end of the third quarter, leading 41-24.  The Bulldogs would continue to fight in the fourth quarter, outscoring Americas 12-7 but it wasn’t as the Trailblazers held on for the 48-36 win.

Angel Gutierrez, the Player of the Game, led all scorers with 16 points.  Americas closes out their regular season 27-7 overall, 10-0 in district play and the District 1-6A Championship.  They will most likely be hosting Frenship in the Bidistrict round next week.  Socorro finishes its regular season 13-17 overall, 3-7 in district play.

With Franklin’s loss to Coronado, the two programs will face each other later this week in a play-in game to decide who will represent 1-6A in the Bidistrict round as the fourth seed.
