Riverside rolls over Cathedral 34-3

From the first play of scrimmage it was all Riverside. Cathedral’s defense would try throughout the night to keep their team in the game, but the Rangers would prove to be too much by the end of the night.

15 seconds into the game Riverside would score with a 62 yard run by QB Isaac Pickard on a option keeper. The rushing attack was the main source of success as the Rangers ran for 330 total rushing.

The offense wouldn’t find the end zone until late into the second quarter, that’s where Cathedral’s defense had begun to buckle down. Unfortunately the offense for the Irish just never got off the ground.

The Irish did have some success running the ball but the passing game would struggle. Around the

At the six minute mark of the second quarter you could feel Riverside take all the momentum and runaway with the game.

Cathedral was pinned back inside the five yard line, on third down they tried a screen pass that was intercepted by Rangers linebacker Alexis Minjarez for a touchdown. The ensuing kickoff would be a sky kick dropping around the 30 yard line but no one from the Irish would jump on it, the Rangers would recover and the chances for Cathedral to stay in the ball game would fade away.

About two minutes later Isaac Pickard would score on a QB sneak and boost the lead to 21-0. It would continue to be all riverside in the second half as they would extend their lead to 31 points by the end of the night. Freshman Jose Guardado for the Rangers would get the only touchdown of the 2nd half on a 38 yard touchdown run.

The only struggle for Riverside was their red zone offense. On four specific trips they would turn the ball over on downs twice and only get two field goals. That’s where the Irish defense would try to keep their team in the game.

The Irish struggle which now has been the issue for three weeks is their offense. In the past three games the average points scored is four per game. Four turnovers would be the biggest factor of hurting their offense tonight.

Isaac Pickard was our selection for the Speaking Rock player of the Game. He picked up 234 total yards (135 rush, 99 pass) and two rushing touchdowns.
