With the El Paso Tigers prevailing with victories against Bowie, 98-97, this past Friday and against Austin, 64-54, on Saturday to earn the last playoff spot in district 1-5a, many wondered if that would affect their performance for tonight’s game.
Both the Parkland Matadors and the Tigers started the game with high intensity and fast ball movement. The Matadors showed why they are district 2-5a champs by bringing the ball down the court faster than the Tigers coils guard in the first half, as they went into halftime with a 39-32 lead.
As soon as the second half started, Donohvan Johnson of the Matadors started to pull them away from the game with his aggressive play and nonstop shots. He was named the player of the game, ending the night with 31 points and leading the Matadors to the 91-65 victory.
The Matadors will take on the winner of the Caprock vs Aledo game, which takes place tomorrow night.
