With both the Franklin Cougars and Pebble Hills Spartans at 6-2 in district play, they made sure they came out to play their best game.
It started as a close game, with both teams exchanging the lead in the first half. Franklin’s Clarissa Dominguez had her first points with 2.2 seconds left in the second quarter, she made her shot and was fouled and made her layup taking her Cougars into halftime with a 27-24 lead.
The third quarter resumed with back and forth play by both teams as the lead changed throughout. The Cougars started the 4th quarter with a 4-point lead and they took advantage of two of the Spartans’ leading scorers – Payton Fields and Trinity Anderson – fouling out late in the game. With the player of the game, Katia Gallegos, scoring 27 points for Franklin, they were able to come out with the 55-44 victory.
Next up for the Spartans will be the Thunderbirds when they travel to Coronado on Tuesday. The Cougars will host the Socorro Bulldogs on Tuesday night.
