The Chapin Huskies defeated the Eastlake Falcons 41-14 to start 2-0 in District D1 1-5A thanks to a dominating defensive performance.
The Huskies defensive line would dominate the trench-war at the same time the secondary would have an outstanding effort frustrating Falcon Quarterback Daine Kirtley all night. The Chapin defense would force a fumble and Defensive Back Quintavius Workman and Linebacker Will Williams would each collect two interceptions each in route to a dominating victory.
Chapin would open up the scoring on a 73 yard scoring drive on their first possession caped off by Quarterback Christian McKeever’s first of three rushing touchdowns giving the Huskies a 6-0 lead after a missed extra point.
Eastlake would answer with a 72 yard 11 play drive capped of by a Kirtley 10 yard touchdown pass to take their only lead of the game.
Chapin retook the lead it would never relinquish on 13 play 71 yard drive capped off by McKeever’s second rushing touchdown of the night and taking up most of the end of the first and beginning of the second quarters giving them a 12-7 lead.
The turnover bug would then begin to bite Eastlake as Kirtley would throw his first of 4 interceptions of the night ending a promising Falcon drive.
Chapin running back Jason Cambra would add two rushing touchdowns behind devastating blocks. FBS prospect and 6-foot-3 inch Lama Lavea was also a big factor on the defensive line. Eastlake would recover a fumble in Chapin territory and score on a Aaron Silva touchdown catch from Kirtley but it would not be enough.
