El Paso, Texas — On the last regular season game in District 1-5A Division 1, the Del Valle Conquistadores once again showed their offensive firepower in defeating the Chapin Huskies 48-13 at Allan Sepkowitz Field on the beautiful campus of Andress High.
The battle between the visiting Conquistadores and the home team, Huskies, was for sole possession of second place in District and much coveted home game in the bi-district round of the Texas High School Football Playoffs starting next week.
Del Valle started quick with two touchdown strikes from senior signal caller Raymond Montez to Senior wideouts Cauy Oropeza and Danny Cortez to put Del Valle up 14-0 in the first quarter.
Chapin Senior running back Jason Cambra had some dynamic runs in the first half but two costly interceptions forced by the Big Bad Blue defense changed the tide. Those two picks were by the versatile WR/FS Oropeza.
With 14 seconds left to play in the first half after Chapin punted, Montez hit Senior Karch Gardiner for a nine yard TD to make the score 21-0. Chapin responded after halftime with a powerful run of 53 yards by Cambra to make the score 21-7, but we’re unable to pull any closer for the rest of the game.
Montez finished the night unofficially 20-31 264 yards and 3 TDS. Cauy Oropeza caught 3 TDs and had 2 INTs. Chapin RB Jason Cambra had 223 yards and 2 TDs.
Our Casa Nissan Player of the Game was Cauy Oropeza.
Next week the Del Valle Conquistadores will host Amarillo High and Chapin will travel to Lubbock to battle Lubbock Coronado in the bi-district round of the playoffs.
