Coming into tonight’s game, both the #8 Austin Panthers and the Clint Lions see a victory as key in this matchup early in the season. The Lions look to keep their undefeated season in tact, while for the Panthers, this is their final game before district play begins next week.

Both teams started off slow offensively, as  the Lions had 16 total yards in the opening quarter, while the Panthers has 32. Things picked up in the second quarter, as Austin’s William Rodriguez started the quarter with a 36-yard TD run. The Lions answered back later on in the second quarter, with an 11-yard run by Jesus Rocha. The first half ended with both teams tied at 7.

The scoring resumed until late in the fourth quarter when Rodriguez scored with a 10-yard TD run with 4:28 left in the game. The final score came when Austin’s Seth Lamb blocked a Lion punt and returned it all the way for a TD to make it 20-7, which was the game’s final score

Rodriguez was the Speaking Rock player of the game with 140 yards on the ground and a pair of TD runs.

The Austin Panthers improve to 3-1 on the season as they will host the Andress Eagles next week to open up district play. The Clint Lions who drop to 2-1 will host Chaparral next week.
