#2 Pebble Hills Spartans (3-1) @ Eastlake Falcons (2-2)

Broadcasters: Alex Nicolas and Mando “Monster” Medina

Channels: Eastlake and Pebble Hills https://www.towntalksportselpaso.com/socorro-isd/

Two SISD schools flip on the Thursday night lights at the SAC in hope of improving before district play starts.  Both gave up 31 points in tough losses last week and will look to right the ship.  Eastlake’s strength has been their defense all season but will have to find points to keep up with Sebastian Ochoa and Caleb Gerber.  Eastlake’s defense keeps it close early, but the Spartan offense blows this one wide open late in the game.

Americas TrailBlazers (2-2) @ El Dorado Aztecs (0-4) @ SAC

Broadcasters: Chris Gomez and Fred Gonzales

Channels: Americas and El Dorado https://www.towntalksportselpaso.com/socorro-isd/

It’s been a rough year for the Aztecs as they prepare to face former district rival Americas.  Americas running back Aaron Dumas is the first El Paso running back in 2018 to hit the 1,000-yard rushing mark and should add to his prolific season this week.  This one should be all Blazers.

#4 Montwood Rams (2-2) @ Eastwood Troopers (1-3)

Broadcasters: Alex Nicolas and Coach Tony Grijalva

Channels: Montwood and Eastwood https://www.towntalksportselpaso.com/socorro-isd/

Defense meets offense in this battle for Montwood Drive bragging rights.  Eastwood and Montwood never disappoint in terms of high-octane action, but it will be Montwood’s stout defense against Eastwood’s high-flying offense in a battle of opposite strengths.  If Montwood can put together a complete offensive game, the Rams should cruise.  But Eastwood can score on anyone and will make this a close game.  Setting the tempo will be key.  Can you say upset?

Canutillo Eagles (2-2) @ #5 Coronado Thunderbirds (3-1)

Broadcasters: Luis Barillo and Cole Freytag

Channels: Coronado and Canutillo https://www.towntalksportselpaso.com/el-paso-isd/

Coronado has not beat 5A Canutillo since 2009 and looks to snap that losing streak against its fellow west side school.  The T-Birds have been a pleasant surprise in 2018 with a strong secondary, and one of the best running backs in the city in Garrett Slaughter.  Canutillo is still trying to figure things out on both sides of the ball but should still be a contender come district play.  Coronado controls the line of scrimmage and picks up win number four.

#8 Franklin Cougars (2-2) @ Chapin Huskies (1-3) @ Austin

Broadcasters: Ryan Adams and Christian Molinar

Channels: Franklin and Chapin https://www.towntalksportselpaso.com/el-paso-isd/

Franklin head coach Darren Walker faces his former team for the first time, while the Chapin Huskies look to find some offensive answers during a difficult stretch of the season.  Both teams have been trending in opposite directions the past few weeks as Franklin brings in a high-powered offense that is getting better each week.  Chapin should keep this game close but will need big plays to keep up with Franklin.

#7 Ysleta Indians (4-0) @ Bel Air Highlanders (0-4)

Broadcasters: Sergio Robali and Henry Reyna

Channels: Ysleta and Bel Air https://www.towntalksportselpaso.com/ysleta-isd/

The upstart Indians take their 4-0 record on the road to YISD rival Bel Air.  Bel Air should give the Indians a tough game as Ysleta now has a huge target on their back after a strong start.  Ysleta quarterback Joziah Salazar has been playing like a district MVP and should have another strong performance.  It won’t be easy, but Ysleta’s perfect record should remain intact for another week.

#3 Del Valle Conquistadores (2-1) @ Hanks Knights (3-1)

Broadcasters: Mike Tipton and Mark Mena

Channels: Del Valle and Hanks https://www.towntalksportselpaso.com/ysleta-isd/

Hanks been a pleasant surprise but will face a major test as Del Valle looks to trend up ahead of District play.  Should be lots of offense, and Del Valle will have to come up with a plan to slow down talented Hanks wideout Mykal Blanco.  Del Valle looked solid last week and will continue to be one of the top teams in the city the rest of the season.  Del Valle’s defense will continue to show improvement marks as the season goes along.

Austin Panthers (3-1) @ #6 Andress Eagles (2-2)

Broadcasters: Paul David Oliver and Paul Torres

Channels: Austin and Andress https://www.towntalksportselpaso.com/el-paso-isd/

Andress has played a tough non-district schedule and opens district play with a tough Austin team.  The Panthers have to feel good after a 3-1 non-district mark but face a speedy Andress defense looking to bounce back after a tough loss to a 6A team on the road last week.  Austin will have to control the ball, and clock all while sustaining drives and scoring points.  Should be closer than most think, but the Eagles start off district play 1-0.

Bowie Bears @ El Paso High Tigers

Broadcasters: Shawn Murphy and Bill Coon

Channels: Bowie and El Paso https://www.towntalksportselpaso.com/el-paso-isd/

D2 2-5A season openers continue as the Old Lady on the Hill will host Bowie and El Paso.  El Paso was disappointing in a blowout loss to Hanks, while Bowie will looking avenge a last second loss at Ysleta last week.  Bowie will be a force in what should be a competitive D2 2-5A race for the playoffs.  The Bears run game with Nathan Felix are the difference.

Irvin Rockets (3-1) @ Jefferson Silver Foxes (1-3)

Broadcasters: Abel Carrillo and Peter Carrillo

Channels: Irvin and Jefferson https://www.towntalksportselpaso.com/el-paso-isd/

Are the Irvin Rockets for real?  District play will fully answer that question, but for now, the Rockets are real.  Jefferson has had a tough season to say the least, but a win to open district play could be what Tony Martinez’s ball club needs.  Irvin should win, but Jefferson will give them a good fight at home.
