Thursday October 25

Americas Trailblazers (4-3, 1-1) @ #2 Pebble Hills Spartans (5-2, 2-0)

Broadcasters: Mando “Monster” Medina and Coach Tony Grijalva

Channels: Americas and Pebble Hills https://www.towntalksportselpaso.com/socorro-isd/

Two of the top running backs in district 1-6A face off in a key district ball game Thursday night.  Americas is averaging over 300 yards rushing per game, led by super sophomore Aaron Dumas who is averaging 7.5 per carry, and 227 rushing yards per game and has over 1,500 yards rushing on the season.  Caleb Gerber is averaging 195 yards per rushing in his last three games combined, showing him and the Spartans are in midseason form.  Should be a high energy shootout, Americas will give the Spartans all they can handle.

Horizon Scorpions (3-4, 1-1) @ #1 Parkland Matadors (6-0-1, 2-0)

Broadcasters: Mike Tipton and Mark Mena

Channels: Parkland https://www.towntalksportselpaso.com/ysleta-isd/

Parkland continues to play elite football but is far from its peak heading into to their third district game.  Another running back taking it another level in midseason is Deion Hankins who has ran for over 230 yards in three straight games.  The senior has scored more touchdowns than any other running back in El Paso history, passing Eddie Britton’s record of 71 total career touchdowns combining receiving and rushing touchdowns. Parkland continues to roll this week.

#7 Montwood Rams (3-4, 1-1) @ #3 Franklin Cougars (5-2, 2-0)

Broadcasters: Abel Carrillo and Peter Carrillo

Channels: Montwood and Franklin https://www.towntalksportselpaso.com/socorro-isd/

A prime 1-6A matchup takes place on the westside.  Montwood desperately needs a win, and Franklin looks to continue their five-game win streak.  Montwood will look to stay consistent on offense, while their top-notch defense must find ways to get off the field against Franklin’s balanced attack.  Montwood’s roller coaster season could level out with a big road win.  Despite injuries and adversity, Franklin continues to improve this week, and should outslug Montwood at home in a classic battle.

Chapin Huskies (3-4, 2-0) @ #5 Eastwood Troopers (4-3, 2-0)

Broadcasters: Mando “Monster” Medina and Coach Tony Grijalva

Channels: Chapin and Eastwood https://www.towntalksportselpaso.com/ysleta-isd/

Chapin is quietly 2-0 in district and playing solid football after a tough pre-district schedule, and same can be said about a dangerous Eastwood team that is becoming one of the best in the city.  Both teams bring defensive units that have been playing consistent and have college prospects featured as well.  Quarterback play will be the difference, and Eastwood’s Chris Casteneda should continue to get it done for the Troop.

 #6 Del Valle Conquistadores (4-2, 1-1) @ Bel Air Highlanders (0-7, 0-2)

Broadcasters: Christian Molinar and Trey Smith

Channels: Del Valle and Bel Air https://www.towntalksportselpaso.com/ysleta-isd/

Del Valle looks to jump back into the district title race, while Bel Air continues to search for their first win of the season.  Del Valle is coming off a tough loss and will look to take care of the football better inside their balanced and talented offensive unit.  Del Valle should roll easily in this one.

Austin Panthers (6-2, 3-1) @ #8 Irvin Rockets (6-1, 3-0)

Broadcasters: Paul David Oliver and Paul Torres

Channels: Austin and Irvin https://www.towntalksportselpaso.com/el-paso-isd/

A big game in D2 2-5A will decide some playoff seeding and positioning for the final two weeks.  After a bye week, Irvin has a chance to lock up their first playoff berth since 2010.  The Rockets have won four games in a row and average over 200 yards rushing per game.  William Rodriguez and Kam Walker have Austin averaging 230 yards rushing per game making this a game that will be won at the line of scrimmage. A true toss up in this, should be a close game.  A win for Irvin, and they’re in the playoffs, same for Austin although they might need some help to secure a playoff spot this week.

Ysleta Indians (6-1, 1-1) @ Riverside Rangers (3-4, 1-1)

Broadcasters: Sergio Robali and Henry Reyna

Channels: Ysleta and Riverside https://www.towntalksportselpaso.com/ysleta-isd/

Ysleta heads down Alameda to face rival Riverside in a key D2 1-5A matchup in the Battle of the Texas 20.  Riverside finds themselves in a playoff race, while Ysleta looks to keep up with Parkland for a possible share of the district title, but is a game behind the Mats for first place.  Look for Ysleta to bounce back, but the rivalry atmosphere could keep things close at Tom Work Riverfront Stadium.

Burges Mustangs (4-2-1, 2-1) @ Bowie Bears (2-5, 0-3)

Broadcasters: Shawn Murphy and Bill Coon

Channels: Burges and Bowie https://www.towntalksportselpaso.com/el-paso-isd/

Burges is laying low in the D2 2-5A standings but has played good football all year and will have a stiff test in Bowie this week.  Don’t let the Bears record fool you, Nathan Felix is a legit talent and the Bears will continue to play hard looking to spoil somebody’s season.  Burges continues to get solid play out of running back Robert Hall, and quarterback Oscar Maldonado was a legit candidate for player of the week last week.  Look for Burges to continue to improve and get a step closer to another playoff berth under Neil Routledge.

Canutillo Eagles (3-4, 1-1) @ Hanks Knights (3-4, 0-2)

Broadcasters: Chris Gomez and Fred Gonzales

Channels: Canutillo and Hanks https://www.towntalksportselpaso.com/canutillo-isd/

Canutillo bounced back with an impressive win against Riverside last week, while it seems Hanks has fallen off a cliff after a nice start in the pre-district schedule.  Canutillo running back Carlos Amato continues to have big games, and another one should happen this weekend.  Hanks can put up points, so I expect an exciting shootout with Amato and the Eagles having the last say.
