Week 10 El Paso #txhsfb preview

Matt Metz – Playerspictures.com

Thursday November 1 @ 7pm

Socorro Bulldogs (0-8, 0-3) @ Montwood Rams (3-5, 1-2)

Broadcasters: Alex Nicolas and Coach Tony Grijalva

Channels: Socorro and Montwood https://www.towntalksportselpaso.com/socorro-isd/

Montwood will look to keep their playoff hopes alive while Socorro looks to snap a few lengthy losing streaks.  The Rams are tied with Coronado for fourth place in district 1-6A, needing a win this week and a Coronado loss to Americas to have a full game lead on the T-Birds heading into the final week of the season.  Socorro will test a good Montwood defense with a running game that is averaging 4.2 yards per carry in their ball control offense.  Socorro continues to improve, but Montwood’s big play ability becomes a factor.

Friday November 2 @ 7pm

#7 Pebble Hills Spartans (5-3, 2-1) @ #2 Franklin Cougars (6-2, 3-0)

Broadcasters: Alex Nicolas and Coach Tony Grijalva

Channels: Franklin and Pebble Hills https://www.towntalksportselpaso.com/socorro-isd/

Franklin can clinch a share of the district 1-6A title, while Pebble Hills would create chaos in the 1-6A standings with a big road win.  Franklin has been rolling, winning six in a row with an elite offensive line, and aggressive defense.  Franklin’s offense is averaging 481 yards per game and continues to develop multiple playmakers in the run and pass game.  Pebble Hills will look to jump start their potential offensive explosiveness in a game that will be decided by turnovers and big plays.  Pebble Hills will give Franklin all they can handle with a district title on the line, but Franklin finds a way to continue their winning ways.

Bowie Bears (2-6, 0-4) @ #3 Andress Eagles (6-2, 4-0)

Broadcasters: Abel Carrillo and Peter Carrillo

Channels: Bowie and Andress https://www.towntalksportselpaso.com/el-paso-isd/

Playoff spots are already set for D2 2-5A, so Bowie and Andress will play for pride Friday night.  Bowie has had a chance to win every game they’ve lost this year, but things will be difficult against a red-hot Andress squad.  The Eagles’ defense has not allowed a defensive touchdown in nearly a month and will be tested with their discipline against Bowie’s patient running game.  Bowie fights like always, but Andress has their sights on doing damage in the playoffs.

Eastlake Falcons (4-4, 1-2) @ #5 Del Valle Conquistadores (5-2, 2-1)

Broadcasters: Paul David Oliver and Paul Torres

Channels: Eastlake and Del Valle https://www.towntalksportselpaso.com/socorro-isd/

A good matchup in the Lower Valley pitting a budding rivalry.  Del Valle and Eastlake know each other very well, making this the ultimate coaching chess match between two coaches who have won big throughout their careers.  Del Valle will face a tough Eastlake defense, but the question will be can the Eastlake offense catch up if Del Valle finds yards and points.  Should be a physical game, Del Valle locks up a playoff spot and holds their own destiny for second place in D1 1-5A.

#6 Americas Trailblazers (5-3, 2-1) @ Coronado Thunderbirds (5-3, 1-2)

Broadcasters: Michael Montes and Cole Freytag

Channels: Americas and Coronado https://www.towntalksportselpaso.com/socorro-isd/

Coronado is in must-win mode to keep their season alive, while the Blazers can clinch a playoff spot with a road win.  Americas’ running back Aaron Dumas is approaching the 2,000-yard mark for the season, and is averaging 234 rushing yards per game.  Coronado has a tough front seven led by Carter McFaddin, Dominque Varela, and Patrick Barrett.  Lots of hard hitting and ball control in this game, whoever sustains drives and cashes in with six instead of field goals will control the tempo and score.

Hanks Knights (3-5, 0-3) @ Ysleta Indians (7-1, 2-1)

Broadcasters: Sergio Robali and Henry Reyna

Channels: Hanks and Ysleta https://www.towntalksportselpaso.com/ysleta-isd/

Hanks will have their backs against the wall against a good Ysleta team looking to lock up a playoff spot.  The Indians balanced offense should have its way with the Hanks defense, but the Knights can put up points as well.  Should be a fun shootout, the Indians continue to roll and lock up a playoff spot.

Horizon Scorpions (3-5, 1-2) @ Canutillo Eagles (4-4, 2-1)

Broadcasters: Bill Coon and Shawn Murphy

Channels: Canutillo https://www.towntalksportselpaso.com/canutillo-isd/

Canutillo is another team this week that locks up a playoff berth with a win.  Junior running back Carlos Amato is averaging 195 yards rushing in his last three games for the Eagles who are coming in as winners of their last two games. Horizon is still very much in the playoff picture and will be fighting to stay alive while also scoreboard watching.  Should be a close game early, but I expect Amato to continue his hot streak.

Irvin Rockets (6-2, 3-1) @ Burges Mustangs (5-2-1, 3-1)

Broadcasters: Chris Gomez and Trey Smith

Channels: Irvin and Burges https://www.towntalksportselpaso.com/el-paso-isd/

Playoff seeding, and playoff paths are on the line in a very interesting D2 2-5A matchup.  Both teams are in the playoffs, but will be fighting for seeding, in hopes of a manageable bi-district matchup.  Burges’ quarterback Oscar Maldonado has been playing great football as of late, while the Irvin Rockets explosive offense will look to bounce back from a tough loss against Austin last week.  A close game should happen, with Burges escaping for a chance to lock up third place.
