EL PASO, Texas – Eastlake quarterback Orion Olivas is starting to become of El Paso’s finest signal caller, and the junior came up huge Friday in a 35-17 win over El Dorado which clinched a playoff spot for the Falcons.
Olivas went 30-for-43 passing for 494 yards and four touchdowns as Eastlake racked 567 yards of total offense.
Matt Jones caught nine passes for 97 yards and a touchdown, Daine Kirtley caught 10 passes for 135 yards and touchdown, he also rushed for 62 yards and a touchdown, Kirtley also completed a seven yard pass in the game.
Blas Compean did his damage in the first half ending the night with seven catches for 183 yards and a pair of scores and he also picked off a pass late in the fourth quarter on defense. Compean is our Speak Rock Player of the Game.
El Dorado took a 10-7 lead after Chris Bustillos had a pass tip off of Chris Harris’ hands right into the hands of a streaking Kris Martin for a 45-yard touchdown pass with 1:47 left in the first quarter.
Olivas hooked up with Compean on the next possession for 54-yard touchdown strike, then the two hooked up again before halftime for a score. The second was a 58-yard score as Eastlake took a 21-10 lead into the halftime break.
The Falcons completed a pair of 98-yard drives in the ball game, the second came in the fourth quarter capped off by a 10-yard pass from Olivas to Jones to make it 28-10 with 8:36 left in the game.
El Dorado quarterback Chris Bustillos left the game in the second half with an injury the Aztec offense could not recover when the game was within reach.
Eastlake limited El Dorado to just 315 total yards, Eastlake ended the game with 501 passing yards as a team.
The Falcons even their overall record to 4-4 and improve to 3-0 in district play, El Dorado drops to 1-7 overall and 1-2 in district play.
