Del Valle’s defense shuts down Hanks 50-21

Story by Chris Gomez

At Conquest Stadium on the Del Valle High School Campus the Conquistadors would hold the hi-octane Hank’s Offense, who came into the game averaging 55 Points-per-game to just 21 points all coming in the second half to easily hand the Knights their first loss of the season.

Del Valle would intercept a pair of Aaron Molina passes, and force a fumble, with the Conquistadors adding another fumble recovery on special teams (all in the first half) to win the turnover battle 4-0 and capitalize on 29 Points off turnovers.

Del Valle would take the opening kick and drive 67 yards for the initial score of the game finished off with a 33-yard touchdown Pass from Sebastian Carr to Christian Ronquillo.

Hanks had a promising drive to open the game starting on their own 12 and driving to a first and goal at the Del Valle four yard line and following a penalty would fall short on fourth and goal and give the ball back to Del Valle on downs.

Del Valle drove the ball 95 yards the other way, as Del Valle’s Christian Rodriguez would carry the ball 79-yards for a touchdown run on a Jet Sweep.

Hanks’ turnover woes began on the ensuing kickoff where they muffed the kick and gave Del Valle a short field and another score and Del Valle never looked back opening a 50-0lead with 7:34 left to play in the second quarter.

Hanks’ standout wide receiver Mykal Blanco needed 171 yards to break the El Paso all-time receiving yardage record held by former Eastwood Trooper and current UTEP Miner Richie Rodriguez and was able to catch 8 passes for 123 yards with a long of 28 yards on his first of two touchdowns on the evening, the other would come on a 22 yard jet sweep run in the fourth quarter.

For Hanks this would be their first lost on the season an will open district play against the Parkland Matadors in two weeks. Mycal Blanco will go into the district game needing only 48 yards to set a new El Paso City Receiving record.

Del Valle will open district play at El Dorado riding a two-game win-streak after a tough schedule saw them start 0-3.
