Before the game started, expectations were a low scoring defensive battle. Canutillo’s defense held up their end of the bargain. Canutillo would use its signature style of ground and pound, chewing up clock and keeping its defense fresh.

Canutillo’s first drive would take over 8 minutes to start the game. Caleb Rodriguez would punch it in from two yards out to get things rolling. After stopping Andress, Canutillo would take another 6 minute drive to go up 13-0. Caleb Rodriguez would find Joaquin Carrasco for a 30 yard touchdown. Defense for both sides would buckle down as the first half came to a close. Canutillo would be up at halftime 13-3.

In the second half, not much would change, Canutillo would continue to pound the ball and chew clock. Carlos Amato and Joaquin Carrasco would get one touchdown a piece in the second half to extend their lead to 27-3. Their defense was solid and only allow 6 points.

Andress’ only touchdown came from Keandre Jones bringing the total to 9 points on the game. Andress couldn’t find a way to stop Canutillo on offense and couldn’t find its rhythm to sustain drives.

Caleb Rodriguez was named our Speaking Rock player of the game. As he accounted for two touchdowns.

Canutillo would close the game out on a 6 minute drive to close out the game and move onto the next round Class 5A playoffs.
