Big plays lift Abilene Cooper over Del Valle 42-21

ABILENE, Texas – Del Valle gave 9-1 Abilene Cooper all they could handle, but six turnovers and big plays were too much to overcome in the Class 5A DI bi-district round.

Del Valle answered every punch from Cooper early and well into the fourth quarter as Sebastian Carr tossed a touchdown pass to tie the game at 7-7 late in the first quarter.

Two Carr interceptions went back to touchdown in the first half which gave Cooper a 14-7 halftime lead, although Del Valle’s defense was tough and allowed just 55 rushing yards in the opening half.

After a Noah Garcia touchdown for Cooper put the Cougars up 21-7, Carr threw a touchdown pass to Christian Ronquillo to make it 21-14 Cooper with 2:39 left in the third quarter.

Joel Serrano ran in a eight yard touchdown run, answering a long touchdown run from Cooper and Del Valle was down 28-21 with 8:08 left in the final quarter.

Although a 71-yard run by Garcia, then an 100-yard pick six by Cooper’s Isaiah Boutee giving Cooper a 42-21 lead with 4:27 left in the game.

Cooper picked off six passes, Dylon Davis had three interceptions for the Cougars.

Del Valle’s season ends at 5-6.
