EL PASO, Texas – The Andress defense flexed their muscle, holding Austin to under 50 yards of offense for nearly the entire game, while Eagles quarterback Jeremiah Tosky threw four touchdowns as Andress pulled away from Austin 40-7 Friday night to open District 2-5A DII play.
The Andress defense held Austin to just 46 yards rushing on the evening and racked up 12 tackles for loss in the game, dominating the line of scrimmage to start district play 1-0.
Andress linebacker Kiante Liggins would tip a pass then dive and pick it off which set up the Eagles first score of the night.
Travon Ware would run in it from 10-yards out on the very next play to give Andress a 7-0 lead.
Tosky would toss his first touchdown of the game to Camryn Rice from five yards out giving Andress and 13-0 halftime lead.
The Eagles totaled 373 total yards of offense, Tosky finished the night with 234 yards passing and his fourth touchdown of the game went to Rice once again for a 30-yard score as Andress led 34-7 late in the fourth quarter.
Two Austin turnovers led to points for Andress, the second was a fumble recovered in the endzone by Andress’ Travell Ware which sealed the scoring and the 40-7 win for Andress.
Rice caught six passes for 113 yards and two touchdowns, Ware ran for 79 yards, but the night belonged to Andress defense who was stout, and did allow a 79-yard touchdown pass late in the game, but held Austin to just five yards of offense for most of the second half and 125 total yards in the game.
Andress extends their district win streak to 19-games and will host Burges next week. Austin drops to 3-2 and will play Jefferson next week.
